Problem/Solution:
Most students take notes on paper. Even if using a laptop or PDA, these notes are “isolated” from the presentation and increasingly from the student’s memory of the presentation. With Tegrity Notes, a student’s notes are seamlessly linked to teaching that is simultaneously captured by Tegrity Instructor software. This creates a unique, combined experience that makes study extremely effective and efficient.

For example, a student who loses track during a lecture can write a note to review that part. Any time after class he/she can highlight that note, click play and watch the relevant lecture section from that point. The student’s notes highlight in sequence while the lecture plays and the student can revise the notes as he/she gains new perspective.

Notetaking hence moves from a rote record of a lecture and an attempt at memorization to a higher-level of analysis, evaluation and learning. In addition, poor note-taking skills, slower learning speeds, classroom distractions, and hearing problems can be offset by the new Tegrity Notes medium.

The recorded teaching is delivered via a regular browser and includes the instructor's audio/video combined with their animated writing, drawing, pointing and highlighting over PowerPoint slides, over any computer application or a secondary instructional video source.

When will it be available? Tegrity Notes is in pilot at leading universities. Official release is in June, but as of January 20, 2004, institutions may purchase Tegrity Notes, work with it and plan deployment for the fall semester.
